Tuna Profile
By Craig Jenkins
Tuna, Giant Trevally, Queenfish

The Tuna Profile as the name suggest is designed for our Long Tail Tuna. The fly cuts the air like a knife, able to be delivered quickly to fast moving Tuna without the worry of fowling. The hook is well exposed for maximum hook up rate. Flies tied on circle hooks has worked well with most fish being hooked in the jaw hinge allowing it to be released unharmed. I like to tie these fly’s three or four inches long for Tuna however we have tied them six too eight inches long on 6/0 and 8/0 hooks for Giant Trevally they work very well.

Hook: Temco SP 600 4/0, Mustad C71S SS hooks work well.
Body: White kinky fibre or similar
Flash: Pearl krystal flash & pearl flashabou
Eyes: Stick on eyes small
Thread: Flat waxed nylon
Glue: Super strength epoxy
Colour: Permanent marking pens in various colors

Tie the thread at the start of the hook bend.

Select an amount of kinky fibre, you need to select approximately one and a half of the length and half the thickness of the desired fly.

Tease out either end of the kinky fibre; this will soften the ends giving the fly a natural fish look.

Find the middle of the kinky fibre, then tie onto the hook. Add a drop of epoxy on the thread.

Fold the rest of the fibre over to form the full fly.

Add a few strands of flash whip finish and add another drop of epoxy.

Remove fly from the vice and colour according to desired colors.
Add stick on eyes with a drop of epoxy over each eye.

Here are some GT models tied on 6/0 and 8/0 SP 600 hooks.
